WHY CHOOSE LASER THERAPY?
Laser energy offers many advantages over traditional therapies for onychomycosis. Treatments are less frequent and they are given in the physician's office, avoiding compliance issues with topical and oral therapies.
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT?
We slowly trace a laser beam across the infected nail for several minutes. We cover the entire nail in a close cross-hatch pattern. The laser beam generates heat in the nail and in the fungal colony. Your nail will feel warm but this feeling quickly fades. The procedure is safe and you won't need anaesthestics. It's free of any side effects and harmless to your nail and the surrounding skin. You can wear your shoes and socks immediately after the procedure.
How Soon Will I Have Healthy Nails?
Nails grow slowly so it can take several months to see the nail
resuming healthy growth.
It can take 10-12 months for the nail to grow back as good as new.
Our patients typically see new pink, healthy growth starting from the base of the nail.
What Can You Expect?
The treatment involves passing the laser beam over the infected nails and urrounding skin. Your physician will repeat this several times until enough energy has reached the nail bed. Your nail will feel warm during the treatment.
Treatment Session Time:A single treatment session takes approxi- mately 40 minutes to treat 5-10 nails. Treatment times will vary, so please ask your doctor for more information.
Number of Treatments: Most patients show improvement after one treatment. The required number of treatments will vary depending on how severely each digit is infected.
Before the Procedure: It is important to remove all nail polish and decorations the day before the procedure
During the Procedure: Most patients describe the procedure as being comfortable with a small hot pinch at the end that resolves quickly.
After the Procedure: Immediately following the procedure your nail may feel warm for a few minutes. The majority of patients can resume normal activities immediately.
Long Term: If the treatment is successful, as the nail grows you will see new, healthy nail. Nails grow slowly, so it may take up to 12 months to see an entirely clear nail.
